What will happen if I got a reassessment from CRA while I’m applying for citizenship? I received an email regarding the reassessment of my 2017 income tax returns and it stated there that I’m owing some money because I failed to include all my t4’s from my job which I had no idea as I didn’t file my t4’s myself. The person who filed my t4’s didn’t include all of my t4’s from my job. Would that affect my citizenship application?

My friend i am a victim of the very same problem. I was sitting at my tax consultant's office couple of years back and me and my wife both changed our jobs that year so each one of us were having 2 T4s each. His staff forgot to add one for each one of us. We did not pay attention to that as we were new to Canada in those days. Based on 1 T4 each, our tax refunds, child benefits etc everything was calculated wrong. After more then 1 year, we received a letter from CRA stating that your tax was reassessed and we found that it not correctly calculated. As a result, they told us that we have to pay them back the outstanding amount. We paid it anyway because there was no way out. To cut the long story short, this has nothing to do with your citizenship application. I applied last year and became a citizenship in September 2018.

But if it has nothing with the citizenship application, why they asked to check your taxes then ?

Sorry, I just notice my sentence was not clear lol

I meant, why one of the citizenship condition to apply are your taxes ? They checked only if you filled tax or not, that's it ?
