Canada taxes based on residency not citizenship (like the US). But like I said, residency for tax purposes is tricky. If you retain enough ties to Canada while you are away, you might still be a Canadian resident and you are required to report and pay taxes on worldwide income. You can ask CIC for a ruling on this. If you become a non-resident, you need to figure out if you might get hit with a departure tax.

I became a non-resident after 6 months outside Canada and I never paid any departure tax. I even sold my house while living outside Canada and I never had to pay any taxes on anything except pay taxes on the remaining balance on the home buyers plan.
