I graduate in 2023 and am trying to decide which NOC job to take in order to gain 1 year Canadian experience, however they are soon changing it to a targeted system.

I'm worried that I could work for 1 year, but IRCC decide that job is not targeted.

With no way of knowing what will be targeted, won't many people be wasting their time in the wrong jobs with this targeted draw system?

Hard to comment without knowing your educational background or what NOCs you are considering.

My two cents is that anything in IT is a safe bet.

Thanks. I have 5 years of skilled experience as a sound editor in the UK, as well as 2 years in admin assistant.

Both are NOC B and would have given me PR under current draw system. I just think it's bad of IRCC for all the people who are 2 years into their immigration plan like me, to find out that what we've been working towards may no longer get PR.

I will have studied 2 years in Canada, so I can get the PGWP, from which I hope to get CEC - as long as I choose the right job!
My Canadian education is a 2 year Film Business post grad certificate.

I hope they'll still do the occasional Open NOC draw in addition to the targeted draws, to help those in my situation.
