Hi - Following is my situation and looking for guidance on how to take my car from Chicago to Toronto.
I am currently on F1-OPT US Visa. My work authorization in F1-OPT status ends on May 30th, 2018. My company has filed for an H1-B visa but haven't heard anything on it yet and I expect the chances of getting selected in the lottery to be very low. I know that there are ~0% chances of me returning to the US for work.
My company has obtained a work permit to transfer me to the Canadian office in Toronto. I want to take my car with me. The car is owned by me and has no loan on it.
1. When I move to Toronto, what procedure should I follow to drive my car across the border? Do I need to export my car from the US AND then temporarily import it to Canada?
2. How should I go about my car insurance in US and in Canada?
I have been reading a lot of information on this forum and read a lot of opinions and guidance. Any help is very much appreciated.
