Hi all,
Just wanted to find out if it is possible for international students to take a break from their studies for a semester or year? What implications would there be on the study permit and would it be able to be extended? I do not intend to stay in or work in Canada during this time.

Your study permit will be automatically canceled if you drop out of school for more than 90 days. You'll need to apply for a new study permit once you are ready to return to Canada.

It is possible. Just leave the country. Do not stay in the country, work full-time for 1 year in order to be able to pay for your tuition fees. You will get refused for PR. If by some miracle you still get it, CIC can still remove your PR in 10, 20, 50 years if they find out you gave false information. Yo came to canada to study, so do not take breaks and work, or leave the country and apply again when you will be more interested in studying. You will have then to explain why you dropped your classed the first time.
