I have a pretty straightforward and possibly dumb question... Do I need to include any passport-style photos in my SWOP application? I'm going through this simple checklist and not seeing anything about them. As far as I can see, all I need to include with this simple application are a couple of photocopies (i.e. my US passport, marriage certificate to Canadian citizen) and receipt of payment. I feel like I'm missing something here! Thanks in advance.

SWOP? I’ve not heard of that before... Are you referring to a spouse OWP? If so, you include two passport style photos as per the guide’s specifications, but this is only if you’re sending the PR application and OWP application together. The photos are for the PR card only. The OWP application does not require photos. The OWP is issued on official government of Canada paper, but it’s just a letter sized document, that is identical to a visitor record if you’ve ever seen one. It’s not a visa though, so there’s no photos on it, just text.

Thanks to all those who have replied. Yes, I meant spouse open work permit (SOWP). Oops.

I read the first post and went over to get four photos. The very experienced lady at the store was pretty confused too, but then she did say things change from time to time, so maybe this was one of those times. Looks like it was just a misunderstanding and now I have an extra pair. Ha!

For the past few days I've searched and searched and posted in other areas without an answer, so figured I'd ask the following in my own thread:

On the OWP form (IMM 5710) under "Details of Intended Work In Canada," question 5 asks for a date range for "duration of expected employment." I'm at a loss here and the guide says nothing. It's the last measly thing I have to do (minus payment) and it's driving me crazy, lol.

- IMM 5556 (check)
- Marriage license and passport copies (check and check)
- IMM 5710 (almost check)
- proof of $255 payment (check once I get this question answered)
- Marriage license and passport copies (check and check)

Seems like that's all I need for OWP since I'm a US citizen married to a Canadian citizen applying at the same time as PR spouse-inland (so no identity docs, travel docs, LMIA, etc.). I haven't seen anything for proof of funds for me or spouse either, so... If I'm wrong, feel free to tell me how wrong I am!

If you're applying for an OWP, you put N/A in all of those fields that concern the employer, field of work, duration of employment, etc. You're applying for an open work permit so those questions don't apply to you as you have no way of knowing where you'll work, for how long, etc. These same forms are used for many different kinds of applications so not all questions apply to everyone.

Yup, did all that. What threw me off from Guide 5553 was the following for that section: "If you chose “Open work permit” or post-graduation work permit no information is required for question: 2,3,4,6,7,8." Question 5 is strangely missing! Anyway, the PDF won't let me type in N/A for question 5, so I guess I'll leave it blank.

I think I'm done. Phew. Thanks again everyone for all the help!
