Hi there how are you?

My common law partner has a tourist visa. I was planning to apply with him as non accompanying and then let him use his tourist visa to come meet me after I settle (couple of months later) and apply to sponsor him and asking an open work permit so he could stay inland.

But many people advise against it. My problem is with him I only get 467 points and it might take months before to receive an iTa. Some people advise me to apply as non accompanying to get the ita and then swap to accompanying. But would it really work? I'm scared to do it receive the ita and then they cancel the ita if I change back to accompanying. But it could be that the spouse changed its mind couldn't it?

Could you please advise me? Thanks in advance

They will re-calculate your score after you add him. If your score drops below the cut-off score for the draw you received ITA for, your application will be rejected.

You can wait until you become PR and sponsor him if you do not want your score to be affected.

How long does it take to be a PR? Is it as soon as i arrive in Canadá?

Yes, you activate your PR status as soon as you complete the landing formalities in Canada.

Ok cool thanks. Thats good to know. If I sponsor him out-land can he come visit with the tourist visa while waiting? Or should I make him come and ask the inland road with an open work permit?
