Hello,

I am a graduate student in Toronto with an open work permit which allowed me to sponsor my wife for an open work permit too.

She applied for the work permit (outside of Canada) 3 month before the date we were supposed to move to Canada but we could not get her application approved on time so she came with me as a tourist. Few days after we arrived she got an answer from immigration Canada telling her that the application was approved.

Since she went to the Visa office of Toronto, the embassy of her country of origin but no one knows how to change her tourist visa to an open work permit. It seems that the only solution is to cross the border which really does not make sense to me and I am wondering how people do when they apply from Canada? Do they have to cross the border to?

Does someone have a better solution than going to the Niagara, cross the border and come back?

Thanks in advance.

1, 2 choices. apply on line for her SOWP processing time about 2/3 months or head to the border and "flagpole" to get the SOWP

PMM, I was hoping you'd reply to a post I put up yesterday. I need clarification on something. I'm not trying to hijack this thread anything. Just need advice.
Here it is:
Hi Everyone,

A newbie here but I've been following this forum for a while now. I must say this is a very useful resource when it comes to visa applications.
I have a doubt. I'm currently preparing my documents for a Work Permit application (under IMP and LMIA-exempt).
Everything is all set except for my sponsors document. I am schedule to do the submission next week and my sponsor is in my home country and charges for receiving the documents are a bit hefty.
So my question is this, is it OK for me to just do a colored printout of my Sponsors financial details (bank statement, bank letter and letter of sponsorship) and apply with it? My own personal account details are originals, stamped and signed directly from the bank here and I am also aware that job offer letter doesn't need to be an original copy as I can just enter the LMIA-exempt no awarded to my employer in the 1295E form and then attach a copy of it as an additional document.

I really don't have much time and can't wait for courier as I have to submit ASAP. Anyone ever tried this before ?
P.S: I have also drafted a Letter of Explanation stating that the sponsors docs are gonna be printed out and I'll be mailing an online version to the embassy address for any verification.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
