Application in and now you wait, knowing that your fate is very much out of your hands...
How do you, or how did you, survive without going completely crazy?

Throw yourself into your work, pray to the Gods above, run a marathon everyday?
Or did you just wait patiently for your turn?
I know it sounds like a funny question but maybe you can throw some wisdom our way- Like don't check the forums everyday ;), or don't expect a CIC email everyday. Or don't freak out everyday

Check the forum and help others while you're here, don't compare your application progress with anybody else, avoid sending GCMS note request till at least 3 months have passed since AOR, spend time on other areas of the forum especially landing formalities/settlement topics/finding work (if you aren't in Canada). If you're in Canada, go out and enjoy the last few months of your non-immigrants status. ;)

All the best!

I've pretty much exausted my possibilities and strugeling to survive at the moment.

What I have done, and what I am trying to do: concetrate on my work, take on even more work, work during the day, work at home when I put the kids to sleep, so yes.. work is pretty much what my main focus is on.

when I can't concentrate on work, I try to read books, hang around on forum, explore other options if my pr application fails, create plan "B" - acctauly I find having a plann B in case you are not succesful at this time, is really usefull (at least in my case)

The below are the things that I'm doing.

Find alternate ways to achieve your life goals and work towards them. For example, maybe you will find a company in your native country that has operations in Canada and they will transfer you once you join and they know you have a PR --> Job search is resolved! Or maybe you find a job in US and go there in a VISA, once you get Canada PR landing becomes very easy and then you go back to your US job and work out a Canadian job to accomplish 730 days of stay to citizenship. In a nutshell, explore all out of the box and alternative options. Experiment! :D

Focus on getting into good shape to survive Canadian winter, by losing weight and making exercise/yoga or whatever your thing is, a habit. ;D

Enjoy the last few months in whatever country you are and achieve your desires there, maybe visit some friends/relatives who you may not get a chance to see for a long time. Visit your favorite restaurants and.. you get the point.

Take some risks in your current firm. Network with colleagues you like, or want to be in touch in future. Maybe some options will open up.

Research on your business and get some certifications. Make yourself a Canadian resume and search in job sites to see what kind of jobs show up in your areas or related areas. Find surrounding businesses to yours and see if you can network with them. Improve your skills and practise networking.

I'm sure there are other things we can do as well. I'm waiting to hear other ideas.

Yes having that plan B in place helps, what I hate is CIC taking 3-4 months to tell you something "fixable" is wrong. I understand security checks and background checks, but surely incomplete application, clerical errors, insufficient funds etc can be determined quickly. Plan B's can get tricky to implement when things start expiring. Anyway a short vent!

Lose weight always better. Remember all you will be doing during cold months is moving from one heated environment to another.

But to your original question, I plan to take up a course to be able to speak, read and write French. I imagine it will take a few years before I am fluent but it could be useful if I ever need to live and/or work in Quebec.

Good choice! :)

I speak a little but it is really hard for me to remember french as I studied that almost 4 years ago and lets say I was not the best student ever when it comes to this specific course.
I started again though. I was advised that bilingual workers are always better valued than only english speaking.

All great tips, especially learning French (no loss even if APR gets rejected, right?), keeping healthy and gearing up for the long winters ( :-[), performing research re: next steps and life/work in Canada, networking at current job, and enjoying living in one's current country of residence.

My vote for the second best tip is: having a plan B.

My vote for the best tip? BEER BEER BEER :p
