Not if you goal is to get a TN visa and hop to the US. It can open up a lot of opportunities if you qualify for a position under NAFTA. I know at least two people who immediately bolted to the US when they got the Canadian citizenship.

The other big benefit is the Canadian passport. Depending on your current passport, getting a Canadian passport can open up a lot more visa-exempt entry to a lot of countries.

The problem with the TN visa is that first they have to find an employer who is willing to hire them as an alien it is not very common to happen because of the visa issue.

The US employers prefer local people.

In my case I have very strong citizenship so the visa issues for traveling is not a problem.

It depends on your profession. For example, my one friend got an offer nearly immediately. She is a doctor in a specialty that is in demand and difficult to find in the US. She basically had an informal offer and the hospital was basically waiting for her to get her citizenship to start the process.

I also get contacted myself by US recruiters (I am an engineer) who say they like the talent pool in Toronto and with a TN visa, they can get me to the US (though I tell them I am also a US citizen so I don't need a TN if I was even interested)

I'm sure that you also know people who are trying to get government positions as a job, and they keep on waiting for years for a real offer.
Being Canadian only gives you the right to apply. The actual hiring is another story. You know what I mean.

That I know of; many of those who went to school with me are still waiting for it, only a tiny minority actually got an offer — and I got recommended to the RCMP, but I'm not a citizen, so...

So you took the right decision to study.

I think so. :D

Like you said it's is very specific. It's is not main stream success for most of the people.
That's why I say to the new Canadians , try for yourself in practise to see that it's not that easy.

The reality hurts for most of the people. I was sure that you know what I mean.

A many of these new immigrants to Canada are quite skilled - makes sense since Canada prioritizes them. If you go through some of the threads, you will see many people who have opportunities in the US, some even find a way to get there on H1B or otherwise and they are ones who freak out over getting an RQ because they are working in the US while they are applying for citizenship (since living/working in the US is an RQ trigger).

Re

I agree with that, because I know that if someone really wants to work in US, he/she will find a way to do it soon or later.

As for the original question - I think I had about 11-12 days extra. The buffer served me well as I was off by one day when the interviewer checked my stamps.

Handshaking:-) I think we are on the same page.

Why US and Canada don't have unlimited option someone to stay and work in the other country without any problems like in The EU?

Bcoz Canada is just considered as a little brother of USA, not a peer partner.

Example:

If you have US green card, you can visit canada without extra visa.
If you have Canada PR, you need extra B1/B2 visa to visit the US.

I know this would be an inconvenient truth to some guys here, but, Cest la monde.

Re

Actually it's inconvenient for both countries , because many US citizens will also be happy of the option to live work and study in Canada as much as they want.

Only visa free access for tourism is not enough.

The TN visa doesn't give the freedom to live work and study as much as the people want.

To my knowledge, TN visa is valid with a valid job offer. So if one wanna change a job, he need to leave first and activate a new TN visa at the custom.

Re

Exactly ,
all the time the person must rely on a job offer in order to stay there and work. It's not true freedom for me.

I waited for 3yrs and 2months

For me I waited another 12 days, and submitted my package on May 18,2015.
Wish I could wait longer but I am afraid the c-24 will take effective soon...
