Hello,
My wife and I though currently are Indian Citizen and on PR, but we are waiting for our Citizenship which should happen soon.
We are planning to get a surrogate in India. I would be the biological father but my wife will not be the biological mother as we will be looking for egg donor in India separately. I believe India is shutting down surrogacy but we still have a window.
We do have a few concerns though:
1) India does not grant citizenship by birth to children born in India to foreign nationals, which we would be.
2) Canada does not grant citizenship to children born outside of Canada to Canadian parents automatically.
3) Then what would be the status of the child?
4) what is the process of bringing the child back in Canada.

I saw a few similar threads but they are old.

Others can comment as well but it may well be prudent to discuss your plans for such a life changing event with an immigration lawyer rather than take advice from a public forum. Just my view anyway.

appreciate your thought. But isn't the whole idea behind a forum is to try reaching out to people who might have gone through similar situations or who already might have seen these cases? I am sure you posted some useful and helpful comments yourself in your ~7000 posts..

2. Not sure what you mean. As you will be the biological father, if you are already a naturalized Canadian when your child is born, s/he will automatically be a Canadian citizen. You would need to apply for proof of citizenship.

I'm Canadian citizen living in Saudi.. I had both my children here, and they received their Canadian citizenship right away
