Surrender Certificate BLS Brampton Experience (ongoing saga)

Come join me and have fun watching my pain, agony and frustration as I go through the surrender certificate process. I will be updating this as things move (or may be they don't). You're welcome to share yours if it helps to make you feel better.

Sent two surrender certificate applications for me and my wife. Reached BLS Brampton on March 18th, 2025.

1. The morning of March 19th, 2025 got one email on my address from BLS. Except, that email was for my wife and not for me. These applications were submitted in two separate envelopes and hers had her own email. I did not get any email for my application, neither did she.
2. Anyways, my wife's email said the following:
Your PASSPORT application with airway bill no XXXXXXX has received at our BLS Center.
The time taken at Consulate would depend on the category / merit of your application. You are required to submit your application duly filled up along with document checklist as mentioned on BLS website. Incomplete or Erroneous applications would be returned back, to you
3. I wasn't sure whether they're saying the application was received or whether the application had missing documents so I logged on to BLS site to track the status. To my surprise, the status was for an application dated 2021-06-04. I'm sorry WHAT? It also said the application was already dispatch via Purolator and had tracking number (of course that tracking number didn't work) https://filebin.net/6zdx868ydfozn89m/SCR-20250319-khcs.png
4. When I checked my application status, it did not have this grave error but my DOB was the date the application was received. https://filebin.net/6zdx868ydfozn89m/SCR-20250319-khna.png

I suspect, someone more stupid than a blocked sewage pipe, when they were updating the status for my wife's application might have selected her name that popped up from previous case? Perhaps they simply didn't want to re-type her info. That's the closest guess I can take. However, that still doesn't explain why the email was sent to me and not her. Regarding my DOB mix up, I doubt anybody there cares (or is capable enough to determine) which date goes in which field. They just do whatever.

I had zero trust in security and privacy practices of BLS but at this point, I can confidently say, if a bad actor wanted access to our records, they'd rather get it themselves. At least that way they would be confident those records are correct.

Stay tuned for more misery, I'm sure it will only get better.

Got two cryptic text messages today, of course only on one number (mine) for both me and my wife - https://filebin.net/7dyv8oijty9p4qoz/SCR-20250321-nunh.png
Your postal application has been dropped at BLS Postal Hub to be screened for service category and correct documentation for further processing at BLS
Went to check the status and saw that application now says "Returned" and my Date of Birth is changed to 0000-00-00. Wife's application status hasn't changed at all.

Any idea what this means? Status on consular website hasn't changed either and still says "Surrender Certificate application form has been submitted." but assuming that's outdated now. I'm guessing they've returned my application based on that "Returned" status and that cryptic text message?

Upon checking the forum, it looks like people who got this message (regardless of type of application) were asked to send additional documents not originally on the checklist. Just sent an email to: cccanada@blsinternational.net, submitted a ticket and tried calling but of course no one picks up.

Also, don't bother calling on this number (4163072237), it's not in use. You will see this number on the tracking page of BLS. The only number I was able to connect to was 2894981320 which is currently at the top right of the website. I tried using IVR options 4 (Query regarding sent back applications) and 6 (Query regarding application status). Neither of them connects to an agent and it asks you to submit a form via the "Contact us" page of the website. There is no such form, of course. The only thing I was able to find was this ticketing system where I submitted and assume went into a blackhole:

Got back a response stating the "THE FOREIGN NATIONALITY ACQUISITION DATE DOES NOT MATCH WITH THE OATH CERTIFICATE. THE FOREIGN NATIONALITY ACQUISITION DATE SHOULD BE THE SAME AS PER THE OATH CERTIFICATE."

Sent them proof via highlighted PDF of application form and oath certificate that the date in fact is correct. Do these people have even one brain cell? Are we sure these are humans we're dealing with and not troll bots?

Of course the application has already been returned so nothing can be done at this point but I at least want to understand what it is they want me to do before I ship the exact same thing again. Also I don't expect they'll admit their mistake and refund me shipping fees. So $200 down the drain I'm guessing. Might have to try my luck with the credit card chargeback route.

After sending two emails from each of our accounts, got back 4 replies last week, all citing separate reasons why the applications were being returned:

1. Oath date doesn't match foreign citizenship acquisition date on the application (it does)
2. No issue with the application, technical glitch on the website (wife's application status was showing someone else's application status from 2021 or her old application status from 2021 but doesn't don't match so...)
3. Foreign passport is required (I've read people having mixed results with some saying you don't need and others saying you do)
4. Application is incomplete, missing documents (Very helpful, wish they were more vague)

Just now, got both the applications back. They cite #1 and #3 as the reasons. While #1 is not the same as #3, assuming they mean the same thing. Going to give up on this now and just get the Canadian passport first before sending the application back. Most likely will do walk-in now because this one will have name change and don't want to deal with this hassle again and waste another $200.

Will post back again in ~10-12 weeks...
