HELLO,

I AM AN AMERICAN AND I'VE MARRIED A CANADIAN AS OF THIS PAST AUGUST AND WE'VE JUST FOUND OUT I AM PREGNANT. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS WILL AFFECT OUR APPLICATION FOR ME TO BECOME A RESIDENT? ALSO, I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DOCTORS AND NO ONE WILL TAKE ME AS THEIR PATIENT EITHER BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS OR BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE AND WOULD BE PAYING FOR MY OWN VISITS. IT WORRIES ME THAT NO DOCTOR WILL TAKE ME ON AT SUCH AN IMPORTANT TIME. IF ANYONE HAS ANY LIGHT THEY CAN SHED ON THIS FOR ME I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! THANK YOU!
The only issue I had ( I got pregnant right after my physical, dodged that bullet ;) ) was/is now they've requested his birth certificate as when I sent the missing signature documents in February I also notified them of my pregnancy and due date .

Thank you, Jenny! I am actually in British Columbia and have lived here since my husband and I married. I have not submitted my application yet as I am waiting on one final form to send in with it. I would hope being pregnant would not be an issue, especially since it was very unplanned. Also, I am getting very upset as I have continued calling several doctors and still no luck. I have never experienced having such a difficult time getting an appointment like this, at home I can see any kind of doctor pretty much the same day or next day after calling. I am feeling very frustrated right now and slightly scared as this is my first pregnancy. Thank you for your kindness and being so helpful! :)
It is harder to find a doctor to accept patients without insurance, but I know there are a few doctors willing to take this type of patients. If you want, I can send the doctor's information through private message to you. The hospital fee and doctor's fee usually need to be prepaid (before giving birth). It may cost you a few thousand dollars. That is what you will be expecting for a normal pregnancy and normal delivery. Be aware that medical bill can easily go up if there is unexpected complication.

Hi! Yeah, I'm not sure what to expect as far as my physical goes for the application so I guess I'll see what happens when I get to that point. Also, thank you driftcars, I actually found an office that is taking me and they listed all their prices for every visit along with an idea of how much delivery will cost without insurance. I wish I was able to go under my husbands healthcare as his wife but unfortunately, it doesnt seem it will work for me since I am not a resident/Canadian yet. Thank you for your help and offering a suggestion for doctors!! I am hoping that once delivery comes along it will be natural and no c-section will be needed as I'm sure that will increase the cost greatly! It's hard to know what will happen so early into this, I am only 6 weeks pregnant now. Thank you again for the input!

Jerseygirl - have you gone to the link below and see if you are eligible to get healthcare in BC as suggested by Cathy above? It is suggested VISITORS in BC ARE eligible for healthcare. I would think it's worth it just to check out the link and see what's required. Even if you *think* you're not eligible for whatever reason, i would think you'd want to know for sure so you can save time, effort and money.

You should check this website http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/eligible.html#enroll

Visitors can only qualify on the basis of having submitted a sponsorship app. From her previous posts, Jerseygirl has not yet submitted her PR app, so she doesn't qualify. After the app is submitted, there is a waiting period to receive coverage, the balance of the month CIC accepts an application plus 2 months. http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/pdf/covering-a-spouse-or-child-who-is-an-applicant-for-permanent-resident-status-in-canada.pdf

Unfortunately, BC MSP can be difficult in this situation and those who have obtained coverage have really had to fight for it. I had to send a 2 page complaints letter to the Minister of Health outlining all of MSP's errors before they gave my partner coverage.
