Hi,

my partner and I are on a work permit here in Alberta and we are AINP applicants.

We had medicals done for the PR etc but it showed up that she would need further tests and they recommended surgery which is taking place in June here in AB.

The surgeon said that this would be covered by Alberta Health which we have as we have been in Alberta for years on work permits.

Is this going to affect our PR application, as 'medically inadmissible', as the surgery might cost the government of Alberta? I ask this as even though we are entitled to Alberta Health as Albertan temporary residents, and visa holders (she also has a great medical package from her work).

And the surgery will go ahead regardless of if we become PR on not, paid for by Alberta Health.

We are currently 'in process' after our Immigration Doctor sent the details that she'd need surgery.

What might happen?

I believe that only those with contagious diseases are inadmissible. If they believe that some illness is a risk to its citizens then its a problem i guess. But anything else I guess should be fine. But not sure, maybe someone with better knowledge and experience can provide expertise on this topic.

What might happen?

Potentially Yes, It's hard to say though without knowing more information about the type of surgery and reasons behind it but I understand if you don't want to divulge.
There's 2 factors considered in medical cases, risk to public health and excessive demand. Its the latter which would be of concern to yourself. The threshold is calculated over a 5 year period so you would have to cost the health service in excess of $30,000 over them 5 years.

How long ago did you complete medicals? Have you been asked to supply further information? If your other half has surgery and that is it with no other costly tests or follow ups then you would just send a letter from her specialist stating everything has been dealt with and no anticipated further treatment etc.
If there is further follow up, tests surgery etc you're probably going to have to supply more detailed information and may need to prepare your response to a fairness letter

You say E cas says in progress, does it also say medical results received, if so you have most likely already passed the medical

The surgery is minor, and pre emptive as the results of tests were inconclusive and the normal procedure is to do surgery just in case. It will be overnight stay, but Medication afterwards is cheap ($400 or so a year)

'Medical results received' was in late Feb, and then In Process and RPRF was March 19th.

Aha, don't worry, You guys have already passed the med If there had been problems with the the further info you supplied you most certainly would not be in progress with the RPRF requested. Just have to sit it out now

Your RPRF is not requested until your in the last stages of processing and nearing the end of the application process with no anticipated problems by CIC.
If there was a problem with your medicals you would still be dealing with it right now rather than moving onto in process and Final fees.

hi we are done with our medical last dec 2013 and my husband had his inguinal hernia surgery last january 2014..now we are PPR request and waiting for our VISA..dont worry about it especially if its only minor surgery..just pray God is always in control..Goodluck!
