Hi. I am an international student in the USA and I work as a part time cafeteria manager at the college. My status is under the 38 occupations.about to apply for FSW1 and my question is about the supporting documents.

Do they ask about the W2 form ? And if they do so, does it matter if you are not making that much money like you are supposed to do?. Like in my case, I get paid 10$/ hour as manager, but they pay for my tuition as an international student ( 5000$ per semester ).

Would this have negative effects on my case ?

Thank you

Well, they don't ask for W2's in the list of documents in appendix A. But they can always come back and ask for it.
well you could include the 5000 plus your salary as total compensation, thats what one of my TA professors did. They added my stipend plus my tuition fees to the total and said this includes salary, tuition fees, etc.

The main thing is that you should be doing the duties that are listed in the NOC.

Remember i am no expert but that is what i would do.

In my case, they asked for Official Reference Letters, W2, Tax Returns and Paystubs. Even though I applied under the old process, I think the supporting documentation is still the same for the work experience requirements and I think they will ask you eventually for those documents.

Having said that, I dont think if you dont make a lot of salary - it will have any adverse effect on your application. Salary requirements are more important in the case of UK Tier 1 Immigration than in case of Canadian Immigration. But give it a shot - you wont know unless you try. Also, I think for Canada - usually if you apply from USA, they generally give you preference and priority since its looked upon as North American experience and education - which in turn carries a lot of weight in Canada. You will see it when looking for a job in Canada - the difference between North American and Non North American experience.

Overall - I think you have a good chance - so try.

By Official Reference Letter - I mean Reference Letter on the Official Letterhead of the your company explaining all your duties and signed by your boss - usually a Senior Manager in your company with his or her's business card and contact details attached. In my case, they wanted the Reference Letter to be sealed by the Official Seal of the company to add to its authenticity since there is a lot of Fraud going on in that area. But it all depends on CIC and the extent to which they want to authenticate your experience documents.
