Hello All,

I am a permanent resident in Canada (landed Nov 2010). I am planning to get my mom to Canada on supervisa. She is in India. I did not imagine that the processing takes so long (step 1 assessment of sponsor is 31-55 months + step 2 is just a matter of days).

I would like to bring her here this summer, hence my option seems to be to bring her on a visitor visa. My questions are 1) can I start the process for super visa now and still bring her here on a visitor visa? 2) Is it easy to get a visitor visa (she is 67 years). 3) Does the step 1 assessment of sponsor really take that long for supervisa?

Your response will be much appreciated.

Thanks

You are mistaken - you probably read the CIC Family Sponsorship timeline

31-55 months
(working on applications received on September 11, 2007–November 17, 2009* )

31-55 months is for Sponsorship ( which is closed/paused till Nov 2013 or above ), and for those who have applied before Sept 2011. Supervisa is different but its requirements are similar as if someone is sponsoring such has meeting LICO

Supervisa can take upto a month + but she can live here for 2 years
OR
You could apply for regular visitor visa ( but can still get request for meds as she is 67) which will take 1 month overall too and then once she is here, you could apply for 2 year extension by way of Super visa rules. If no meds are required, then the process takes 1 week

You can't have supervisa running while applying visitor visa ( just doesn't make sense anyway )

Supervisa requires you meeting minimum requirement and prepaid purchase of health insurance for your mother, visitor doesn't require them BUT your income, tax papers does help her application

Check my signature for papers, requirement and VFS link where you could do this

P.S - Sponsorship is a different ordeal, I applied in March 2008 and still waiting - so you can imagine the processing time

User828,

+1 for you.

Thanks so much for the info. Very useful. I'll apply for Supervisa then.

Much appreciated!

Hi Everybody...

I am in Canada on PR and i am thinking of calling my parents here from India.

Can anyone please advice..Which is better Supervisa or Visitor Visa. Can anyone throw some light on difference between both of these.

Somebody was telling me buying health insurance in Supervisa will be more expensive than buying travellers insurance in Visitor Visa. How far is it true.

Need help and information.

Thanks in Advance
