Here is my situation:

We are two people in the household: my wife and I. I am inviting/hosting my parents to visit. They previously visited Canada twice under a regular visitor visa (in 2023 and 2024). Now, as their passport validity has ended, their visa has expired, and they are applying for the Supervisa.

2023 - My income alone was above the minimum income requirement for a family size of 4, therefore I met the income requirement as a host

2024 - My income alone does not meet the minimum income requirement. I didn't have a job for the first 7 months of the year and was on Employment Insurance. That being said, I have been working Full-time since August 2024 for a crown corporation, but it's a contract until August 2025; there is a possibility it could be extended, but I am not sure yet. Based on my current salary, I am well above the income requirement.

Questions:

1. Is it ok if I only include my 2023 T4 and Notice of Tax Assessment, as my 2024 income is under the minimum requirement? Besides I haven't filed my 2024 taxes yet, so my most recent NOA is 2023

2. If I must include my 2024 Notice of Tax assessment, can I also include my wife's income? Should I also include my sister's income, who also lives in Canada? My parents will not only be staying with me but also with my sister, although in the application, I am the main host as I am writing the invitation letter.

Thanks for your response in advance.

1. You need to meet income for 2024 so NOA or T4s for 2024. 2023 doesn’t count as it is income in the past year.
2. Your wife can co-sign to meet LICO. Sister’s income is not relevant. If she is PR or citizen and meets LICO on her own then she is eligible for parents’ supervisa.

  • the last notice of assessment issued by the Canada Revenue Agency
  • T4 or T1 for the last tax year
  • pay stubs for the most recent 12-month period available
  • employment insurance benefit statements
  • a letter from an accountant confirming the annual income, if self‑employed
  • proof of other sources of income (for example, pension statements)
  • a letter from the employer stating the job title, job description and salary
  • bank statements

They don’t qualify for a supervisa based on what you have posted. 3 options: either add your spouse as a co-signer if your combined income would push you over LICO for 2024, have your sister invite them if she (and her spouse if she has one) is over LICO or have them apply for the regular TRV.

1. No. It's not OK. You need NOA 2024 that meets LICO.
2. You can ask your wife as co-signer and include her income for 2024. If the combined income meets LICO you can apply for your parents' supervisa. BUT if the combined income doesn't meet LICO, you hopefully has a job now and you can try to apply once you have NOA 2025. If your sister's income alone meet LICO for her family size and if she is a PR/citizen, she can apply for your parents' super visa INSTEAD of you.
(income cannot be combined for siblings)

Thank you for your response. My parents will also be staying with my sister. She is a permanent resident, has a job and meets the minimum income requirement. She will be a co-host with me and I can include her in the invitation letter as well. Will that help? Can I provide her NOA?

On other case, How can I have my wife co-sign to meet the requirement? Is it ok, if I just include her NOA which will have the same address as my NOA?

Can my sister be the co host? That means both me and my sister are inviting our parents. I can mention my sister is also co-hosting in the invitation letter

For the other option, what is the best way to have my wife co-sign? Can I just include her NOA and say in the invitation letter that she is hosting with me?

Can both options be combined for a stronger application?

Regular TRV is a tempting option too as it avoids the hassle for extra documentation. I am just wondering whether the only difference is not being able to stay more than 6 months. Also, I am wondering whether IRCC will provide the same duration of visa for regular TRV as they would have for Supervisa, that is, until the expiry of the biometric or passport?

Finally, let's say come here as a regular TRV. In that case, can they apply for supervisa while still being under TRV?

There is no such thing as a co-host. You and your sister CANNOT do this. It is either you or your sister. So if you meet LICO with your wife co-signing then she signs and takes on responsibility with you. Or your sister is the one who meets LICO.

Supervisa holders can stay years. TRV holders up to 6 months.

Supervisa typically expires when passport expires. Also want to stress that they can stay up to many years if they purchase and pay for supervisa insurance annually. If they ever run into health issues or make a claim they may struggle to secure supervisa insurance the next year, cost of insurance may increase dramatically and coverage is only 100k which you can exceed pretty easily if you have one major health crisis. Someone recently posted how a Canadian hospital was demanding full payment of around 100k for a parent’s bypass surgery because bill was around 200k. If you are not meeting LICO or close to it then paying for supervisa insurance can be a big chunk of your annual income especially for both parents. Also only covers emergency healthcare so routine care would have to be paid out of pocket.

Thank you for your detailed response. One last question (hopefully), with my wife, we meet the LICO. If I include my wife as a co-signer, how many years of NOA do I need to show for her? Is the last year enough or last 3 years? She came to Canada in 2022 as a PR, so her income in 2022 was less than 2023 and 2024.

Also, should I also show my previous years NOA along with 2024?

You show your NOAs meeting LICO for 2024. Again you are getting confused with sponsorship so show 2024 only.
