Supervisa Duration extended to add 5 more years

Super Visa changes announced:

1. Increase the length of stay for super visa holders to 5 years per entry.
2. People who have a SV also have the option to request to extend their stay by up to 2 years while in Canada. This means SV holders will now be able to stay in Canada for up to 7 consecutive years.

My folks have an approved Supervisa which they have yet to use to visit Canada (I'm holding off on their arrival until mid-July now). I wonder if the 5 year allowed stay means that parents have to show (pre-paid) health insurance coverage upon arrival for the full 5 years (and then a top off for the additional 2 year extension). When I purchased their health insurance through Manulife, the only option available was for 1 year and it was not cheap. So I wonder how the 5 year allowed stay will correspond to the health coverage requirement...even if we are allowed to purchase from international insurance companies. Nevertheless, it's welcome news.

They should be able to come in and apply for extensions.
