Super Visa vs. Visa-exempt Entry

Hello,

My mom is from a country that is visa-exempted as long as the visit is less than 6 months. However, we applied for a Parent Super Visa so that my mom could visit for longer than 6 months in the future.

My mom is coming to see me for 3 months only and I was wondering if she is required to enter using the Super Visa that was issued to her or if the can still enters Canada as a visa-exempt visitor since the stay will be for less than 3 months. The reason for her not wanting to use the Super Visa this time is because she would be required to buy medical insurance for the whole year instead of for just 3 months.

Does someone know if she is required to present her Super Visa letter the first time she re-enters Canada, or she can just enter as a visa-exempt visitor for now and present the letter in future visits?

Thanks very much.

She can request to enter as a normal visitor. She should purchase travel medical insurance no matter what unless you have a large amount of disposable income and you could easily pay for any medical bills out of your savings. Although she would have to pay for a year upfront with the policy you provided in your supervisa application policies should pay back the unused months. Would suggest reading the terms of her policy. If she is denied entry as a normal visitor and is required to enter on her supervisa she would have to initiate the supervisa policy at the border before being admitted.
