Hi All,

I am in the middle of filing for a super visa for my mom who is from Chennai India. I moved to Canada in 2015 on a spouse sponsored PR and since then haven't been able to travel to India due to circumstances to see her. I don;t think we will be able to travel in 2019 either. I miss her terribly and want her to come visit on a super visa.

We don't have any children as of now and our annual income more than meets the LIOC. We own a house here and have a good flow of incme and bank balance.

Do we need to prove substantial ties to the home country for my mom? I know that this is a main criteria in a regular TRV. But is it that key for a super visa? Is the burden on us to prove our financial capability to provide for out parents?

She doesn't own property and she is a homemaker. But has a great bank balance/FDs and is financially independent (she lives off the interests from her investments). She has traveled to Dubai in the last 10 years.

I was thinking to prove that she will leave Canada after sometime, if I should I mention that she has a cataract surgery scheduled for later half of 2019. It not an urgent surgery and she has no other health problem and she has a dr's report regarding the surgery. We are not looking to have her come here in Canada to be operated on - it much cheaper to do this India :).

But will it prove that she will be coming back to India or do you think it can backfire and make the visa officers think that she might be a burden on the Canadian health system if she is given a super visa...

Any thoughts please!

She must prove she has reasonable, basic ties to India.

Yes, for a super visa. No, for a TRV.

This could help for both visa categories.

It won't help.

Cataract surgery (laser process) takes less than one hour. It's the pre-surgery tests and post surgery recovery that could take max. one month. It can be scheduled anytime.

That said, if her stay is for just about 6 months (you've mentioned a cataract surgery later this year) then a super visa might not be a good idea. IRCC could issue a V1 visa instead for a short stay.

She needs to prove she has other reasons to return to India. IMO, a cataract surgery is not one such reason
