Hello all

My mother in law had a visitor visa, and she was visiting us.
So we decided to apply for a super visa for her while she was outside Canada, but while the visa was being processed, she came to Canada to visit us, and then the visa got approved while she's here.
We decided to send her passport to a visa office in the US to get the visa stamped since we cannot do it in Canada. And the passport came back today with the visa on it.

Now the question is, at this point, does she need to leave the country and come back in to activate her visa? Or is she good to be here for the next 5 years without any extra action needed?

Visa validity and how long she can stay in Canada are two separate things. If she don't want to leave the country at the end of her stay, perhaps she should apply for an extension (visitor record) instead.

She could have sent the passport for stamping in Canada. She would need to leave Canada to initiate the supervisa. There is always a risk when leaving Canada of being denied entry or having your length of stay limited. A 5 year stay is not guaranteed with a supervisa that is just the maximum. It would make more sense to apply to extend her stay online on current visit and initiated the supervisa on her next visit.

Do we need to have US visa to send the passport for stamping to US?
