Hi Everybody..

I have so much question and doubt... I'm Canadien ( Quebec ) and my boyfriend is Mexican. We'll get married in a month. I live in Mexico almost all year round so money I dont have much...
My boyfriend has a Crim.case in US for something he had done more than 10 years ago, not violent or sexual crime. He cant enter to US for the next 9 years

I have a bachelor degree, he's studing to be a chef. We,re trying to live in Ontario cause Quebec is too picky with immigation.

I know sometime it takes long to be able to get in, sometime it,s quick... So somebody with any experience can give us some advices to make it easier to be accepted on the first try? If we denied, how long we have to wait to try again? Do you think that we have any chance to be accepted??

Thanks !!

Hello, Julie! Take a look at the application components at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#immigrate - it takes a while to pull together so you can start now (you have to collect history to prove your relationship is genuine and also to prove you intend to move to Canada once he is approved). You then need to submit the application to CPC-Mississauga which verifies your eligibility as a sponsor and then forwards it to the visa office you select (Mexico, presumably) to process the rest.

You can check on timing here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp (currently 75 days at CPC-M and 13 months in Mexico).

Also, look into rehabilitation since my understanding from others on the forum is that there are very specific requirements to be eligible and that it can make the process longer. Hopefully some of them chime in here, in the meantime take a look at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/rehabil.asp

Thank you so much for the last link, I've never seen it before and I'm sure it will be so useful!
Julie, you are looking at a long haul with your boyfriends past criminal history I am afraid. You will have to follow all the steps for him to become admissible to Canada on top of the usual wait time to process an application. I am so very sorry for your tough situation, this is unfortunatly the kind of case you usually need a lawyer for. I wish you the best of luck!

I just hope the fact that it was 10 years ago will help... I will do everything I can do by myself, and before sending anything I'll go and check with a lawyer... Hope everything will be OK... Cause I don't wanna stay in mexico all my life !
