I have a same problem! My spouse came on the tourist 6 months visa in US; now she is out of status for years! Can she get Canadian PR if I'm qualified skilled worker in H1-B status! I found a link saying it does not matter, but could not find somebody saying Here's how I did it.

Thanks

Hello there,

I'd like to think that I'm on my way to a Happy Ending after a 21 month long distance relationship ( 4 months of marriage)

I'm from the US and my husband is a Canadian Citizen... We met in Dec 2006 while playing the same MMORPG called Entropia Universe. It wasn't long before we became good friends in the game and he joined our society (guild). We met in person after about 6 months, chatting everyday up until this point. My life has been all the better since!

My husband is self employed and has the flexability to make his own hours and take a few weeks to come down and stay with me :) The longest time we have spent apart was 6 months, But we use MSN and skype and our webcams to stay in touch during those times.

We done a lot of talking and planning for my big move to Canada, Things haven't gone as smooth as we hoped, but we are getting things done as best as we can and making the best of the time we have, whether it's a few weeks.. 2 months.. or a weekend it makes the time we spend together just that much sweeter :)

We finally have the money for the fees set aside and we are working on getting all of the "proof" needed before sending in the paperwork... With a little luck I should become a permanent Canadian resident within the next 6 month!

Best of Luck!
