Submitted PR application, but my visitor status will expire soon

Hello!

My husband (Canadian) and I (American) are applying for permanent residence for me under the inland spousal sponsorship category. We are also submitting an application for OWP for me. We mailed in our application just last Wednesday (February 5) via Canada Post. For reference, we live in Toronto, not far from CPC-Mississauga.

However, my status as a visitor is going to expire on Friday, February 14.

Since we have mailed in our PR application, does that place me under implied status? If not, would AOR provide implied status?

If all else fails, would it be enough to take an emergency trip to Niagara Falls, NY, and then cross the border again and explain our situation to CBSA?

What do you recommend?

I am worried because I do not know when we might get AOR, if AOR is enough for implied status, or if it matters if my status expires before AOR.

I am also worried about the possibility of having to cross the border and place our application on the line while we explain our situation to a CBSA officer.

No - the PR application does not give you implied status. Neither does AOR. Submitting the OWP application gives you implied status.

Very strongly recommend that you apply to extend your status (in addition to submitting the application and OWP). You can apply to extend your status from within Canada. The reason why this is important is that if your application is retunred as incomplete for any reason, this will put you out of status in Canada.

Thank you for your response! Thankfully I was able to get my photos done right away and quickly put together an application. Now I just have to wait for the servers to come back online.

Once I have submitted the application online and received the confirmation letter by email or the online portal, will I have implied status?

exactly same my case , i applied for extend my visit visa , later on they send my AOR and refund me the fee for extantion
be safe and apply to extend you visa inside canada

That's good to know! I hope I will get a refund as well when the PR application reaches AOR.
