Submission of PR application queries with old PR application (pre-2008)

Hi guys

I'm new here. Not sure whether this is the correct forum to post this question. Anyway, here is my question:

We have previously applied for permanent residence's visa. It was in year 2007. Now that the Canadian Immigration has terminated the application by law. May we know whether we need to officially write to them to withdraw our application? We actually intend to re-apply but do we need to officially withdraw our original application?

Or, we can just keep it there and continue with our new re-application?

If ever, we don't withdraw, do we risk running a situation where they will not recognise our new application?

Also, if we don't withdraw, will it have a positive impact to our new application if we mention that we have previously applied and provide the reference no. of our original application?

Thanks very much.

You don't have to officially withdraw your old application. Just go ahead and submit the new application. The old application will not affect the new application.

There is no need to withdraw since your application was terminated. If you check you immigrant file number in CIC's website, it won't even show anymore therefore, CIC has cancelled/terminated your application. You will not even be able to ask them to transfer your processing fees to the new one if you reapply now.

The link states you should apply for a refund.

I did this for my husband's application and we got our payment refunded already. It was like the death of our dreams.

Fortunately, we came to Canada earlier on a study permit and now I am waiting for SINP decision to nominate me. Good luck with your new application. You are lucky that your occupation is in the demand list and you can re-apply in the new system.

Thanks very much, guys for all your very useful replies.

I have tried logging in CIC using my file number and i can't find it anymore. It seems that they have really closed our application.

I did a direct application and not by agency. I was also at the stage where i was waiting for them to send us the letter so that we can start submitting our documents to them however, the letter never came and then i just heard the news that they are terminating all the pre-2008 cases.

Hi Scylla
I also asked the agency "Canadian Visa Services" and they advised me to withdraw the application as it may affect the new one. Quite confused what to do. Appreciate any insights from you guys. Thanks very much.
