Hello everyone!

I have been working as a freelance translator for the last 3 years and I'd like to immigrate to Canada (Toronto, to be precise), under the Self-Employed Persons Program (part of the Business Immigration Program).

I'm aware that, at least in my country, this process takes about 2 years and within that time I'd like to go to Montreal to study French for about a year and come back once I'm done.

So, these are my questions:

-Can I apply for a Self-employed visa first and right away apply for a Study permit?

-Would it affect my chances for obtaining the "Self-Employed visa"?

Thanks in advance for you help. =D

Hi

Yes your immigration application will affect your student visa application so better choose one boat than putting one foot in each. Applying for study permit will raise questions about your intentions to seek alternative entry routes into Canada as a potential immigrant while your application for immigration is still under process. So there's a healthy chance your study permit application will be refused and it will surely not leave a good impression on your immigration application (under-process) either.

Cheers ;-)
