I have a few questions to ask about studying online. I am Jordanian and have been visiting my Canadian wife's family here in Ontario for 3 months. My wife and I decided to apply for inland sponsorship and we've almost completed it. Im also applying for OWP at the same time. While here in Canada, I cant work before the first stage is complete, so I would like to take advantage of the time and study online. Ive completed only high school in Jordan and now it seems the best time to invest in schooling since I didnt have the chance before. I was considering business (possibly importing/exporting) or english translationor accounting.
Where do I begin? What are the steps to studying (online) in Canada? Where or how can I find out all the info regarding it?
Im confused and would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks all.

I think it's a great idea. Signing up to study online can be very easy, but if you're not officially a resident, you may have to pay higher fees as a foreign student. The nice thing about studying online is that you can adjust your courseload to enable you to work once you're allowed to.

One possible institution is http://www.athabascau.ca/

Athabasca is in Alberta of course, and you may have other options in Ontario. However since it's DISTANCE education, it may serve you well to choose more based on the programs that are available and their fees - it may not matter what province you choose. Studying 'out of province' may cost more.

One thing to keep in mind when entering a course of study is to determine if the institution is accredited by the various regulatory organisations in the given field. I'm not familiar with accounting, but I presume there is an organisation responsible for registering accountants who have obtained a proper credential from a recognised program that fulfills certain provincial requirements. Another thing to keep in mind is that the rules for accreditation may differ from province to province.

The best place to start on the Athabasca page is probably under 'Prospective Students,' which should give you an introduction to what the entrance requirements will be like: http://www.athabascau.ca/prospective/

Good luck!
