Studying in Canada

I'm kinda at crossroads. My wife has her tuition fee to study at Evergreen College but i'm seeing on CIC where she needs an additional $10,000.00 along with the tuition. But the thing is, she has an aunt who is going to provide accommodation close to the college. I realise that there seems to a standardized approach which doesn't seems to treat each case according to what it brings. But my things is, is there any way in which this can be approached differently?

There is no way to approach it differently. She needs to demonstrate that she has the additional $10K to cover living expenses if she wants any chance of the study permit being approved. It doesn't matter that she is going to be living with her aunt.

Note that Evergreen is a private college. It's quite likely she won't qualify for a PGWP once she completes her studies there. Not sure if this matters to you - but thought I'd mention it.

How practical and likely is it to visit Canada and obtain a job offer while there visiting?
Realistically the chances of success are low. Most employers aren't willing to go through the time, effort and cost required to obtain an LMIA and hire a foreign worker. But nothing is stopping you from trying. Expect it to take 6+ months.

It's looking sticky at the moment as studying is the "easiest" option although that is still not a surety. But i believe that because her aunt sponsored my wife (her aunt's grandparents), she may not be able to sponsor her just now under the family class. How does the provincial nominee thing work?

If you don't mind telling, why can't you sponsor her?

A study permit is an OK route provided you pick a decent school and program that is at least 2 years in length. Definitely stay away from private schools like the one you were considering. Bad education, very low reputation with employers, most likely no PGWP - pick a real school (e.g. public college or university). Keep in mind thought that studying in Canada by no means guarantees PR. There are many on this forum who have completed education in Canada and obtained their year of work experience, and are struggling to get PR.

As for provincial nominee, there are many different programs with different requirements. To find out how each of them works you'll need to spend time reading and researching the requirements starting from the link below. If you want someone else to do this research for you, you'll need to hire an immigration lawyer or consultant:

But I see where the school is listed on the cic website. I have figured that studying is not guarantee to PR.

All that means is that CIC will accept study permit applications for that school. It doesn't mean students attending that school qualify for a PGWP or that the school is any good. In general, private colleges in Canada have horrible reputations (apart from a very few exceptions). People only attend private colleges when they can't get into a public college or a university.

I see. So places like Centennial would be a better pick? Or public university with a better reputation as I'm considering studying there and taking my wife with me, or she goes and studies seeing that she wouldnt require a visa of any type as she has an American Green card. My intention is study and land a job, while staying at her aunt's house.

Yes - Centennial would be a far better choice. Or a university.

It sounds like you have some misunderstandings about what your wife's green card allows her to do in Canada. Your wife still requires a study permit if she wants to study any program is that greater than six months in duration. She falls under the same study permit rules as anyone else - it doesn't matter that she holds a green card. Similarly, a green card does not allow her to either live or work in Canada. All the green card allows her to do is visit Canada temporarily.

I have an understanding of what her green card allows her to do. I am also aware of the fact that she will need a study permit for programs over 6 months. But i think one has to be specific in targeting schools for certain programs. However, i will keep looking until i can find a reputable school and relevant program. Thanks for the advice. Very valuable so far!
