My school starts in January but I'm yet to get any response from IRCC . What should i do ? should i defer my admission till may 2025 or just wait till the resumption date before i defer my admission

Ask your school about deferring and last date you can start classes. Are you on an open work permit? Are you taking masters. Is your wife still on PGWP or trying to change to an SOWP? If she was the principal foreigner then she is not eligible for SOWP based on your study permit.

So you cannot study until visa is approved. Also, your wife’s SOWP should be refused because she is not eligible. IRCC closed the loophole several years ago to stop flip-flopping between different permits.

This loophole previously allowed spouses and common-law partners to “flip-flop” between who was the principal status holder (the student) who is your wife, and then become the spousal open work permit holder themselves as their own spouse either went to school or began working in an eligible job. This was done in order to continue remaining in Canada as a temporary resident and continue working.
