Hi there , my grand daughter is 18 years old from Nigeria, she finished high school in 2018 and she is looking to study nursing in Canada. i am going to be her sponsor. i have heard that the application can be declined if i apply as her sponsor cause i am a permanent resident and the application will seem suspicious that i am trying to immigrate her without her studying. has anyone seen a situation like this ? i am really just trying to make her study a nursing degree. what will be the best way to run this application ? thank you

You can be her financial guarantor. If you are a PR and she has other family in Canada the fact that she has family in Canada will often count against you. To receive your study permit you must show that you plan to return to your home country and how doing your degree abroad will benefit you.

Is it possible to not declare me as the grandmother but just run the application under her parents? I'm the only family she has abroad. how will you run it if you were me?

If you are supporting her financially you need to provide her information. Her family in Canada will be easily to figure out based on her application. Everyone lists their family members on application so they can all be cross-referenced. If there is only one family member it is less of an issue than if there are multiple family members in Canada.

Not declaring will be misrepresentation and may lead to a 5 year ban from entering Canada.
