Hi guys,

I'm a Thai citizen and currently studying General English short course in New Zealand from June 2016-2017, but I want to leave NZ to Canada in January 2017 to study a 2-year Diploma in Graphic Design. I graduated from Bachelor of Business Administration (2009-2014) but later I worked as a graphic designer in Thailand from 2015-2016. I chose that course because I would like to pursue my career in graphic design. Unfortunately, after I explained everything in the visa application, I got refused for the following reasons: You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay. In reaching this
decision, I considered several factors, including:

- immigration status in country of residence (I first came to study English here because I would like to improve my English for college studies and I'm willing to leave my English course halfway because my English has gotten better and I don't want to waste more time here)
- purpose of visit (what other reasons do I need to give them as I stated will need to take the diploma and get back to Thailand to live with my family and work)
- personal assets and financial status (I have my dad as a sponsor. We already provided enough bank account and source of revenue)

Could anyone here please help me find out what else to submit when I reapply?
Thanks so much.

Thanks for your reply. I already edited the post. I want to leave NZ to Canada in January 2017 to study a 2-year Diploma in Graphic Design. I graduated from Bachelor of Business Administration (2009-2014) but later I worked as a graphic designer in Thailand from 2015-2016.

The reason I gave Canadian immigration was that because I was forced to study Bachelor of Business Administration by strict parents and they were the one who gave me financial support to study so I had no choice. Then after graduation, I couldn't find a proper job related to my course, but due to my talent in graphic design, I was able to find a job in that field instead. Now I'd like to apply to study the Diploma in Graphic Design in Canada because I'd like to upgrade my skills and my career.

Is this diploma undergraduate 'level' or Postgraduate level. If undergrad it's very difficult to get visa approval after bachelor's. Also not finishing one program in NZ and hopping to another country gives an impression that you are not a serious student.

What you said about your parents pushing you for Bachelor's maybe true but holds no ground for your approval. It seems crying over spilled milk. Better justify with strong points how this diploma will add to your existing qualifications/skill.

Good Luck.

You must tie the reason "You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay", to the factors:

- immigration status in country of residence
Are you in NZ as a tourist studying English or are you under a student visa? Have you over-stayed? Have you stayed in NZ for a long time, left and returned to NZ to avoid defaulting on immigration law? That makes a huge difference. This says that you are country-shopping. You should have applied after you had returned to Thailand.

- purpose of visit
They are not convinced you are going to Canada with the sole purpose of going to school.

- personal assets and financial status
This means you have no assets yourself tying you back to Thailand. Most students don't but they are using this as a reason for what they believe.

Also, your story may seem contradictory. You parents forced you to study BA and you did study it because otherwise you wouldn't had had their financial support yet they now have a change of heart and will support you to study something different abroad? I agree on that going for a 2-yr diploma after a bachelors is a red flag.

Hi thanks for your comments.

- I'm a student on student visa and this is my first time here in NZ and I've been here for five months only. The course will end in June next year but I'm applying for Canadian diploma in January. I want to cancel NZ course and go to Canada because my English has improved enough already and don't want to waste more time. Will this be a good enough reason? Or do I need to wait until I finish the course and reapply?

- My previous work experience is very relevant to the diploma. I'd like to pursue my career as a graphic designer but because I didn't have the right qualification, I need to start from scratch to study the essential skills from the "undergraduate" diploma so I can go back to home country and can earn more salary because employers value oversea graduates more. Will the immigration believe me? I can't choose other subjects that are relevant to my previous Bachelor that I dislike and I can't apply for postgraduate in design either because I don't have the previous undergraduate degree in design.

Also, because after my parents saw I couldn't find job in the field of business all these years but instead I found a job in design through my talent, they've changed become supportive in reaching my goal.

- I don't have any asset and my dad is the sole sponsor. What can I do in this case?
