Hi im a student from NY and applied for a study permit about a month ago. I received my Study Permit Authorization Letter by Email about 2 weeks ago and im ready to leave to canada.
My question is do I need the Acceptance Letter from the College I'll be attending? I sent it in when I applied for it but was never sent back to my home address.
On the letter it says I have to show a valid passport along with the letter, doesnt say anything about showing the Acceptance Letter from the College I'll be going to.
I want to know if I still need the letter to enter or not, also my parents will be driving me up there and will stay for about 2-3 days How much money will they need in order to enter with me?
below is the letter I received via email.
"Dear ------,
Your application for Study permit has been approved by a visa officer. The authorization document will be issued to you upon
your arrival in Canada.
To facilitate your examination at the port of entry, inform the officer of the reason for your visit to Canada, and present this letter
with your passport. Your passport must be valid, and should be valid beyond the period you intend to remain in Canada.
United States Citizens entering Canada from the USA may show proof of citizenship (a birth certificate or naturalization
certificate and a photo i.d.) in lieu of a passport. United States permanent residents entering Canada from the USA may show
their "green card" in lieu of a passport and a photo i.d..
This letter is not valid for travel, and is not an authorization permitting you to remain in Canada.
Your authorization permits you to study in Canada for a temporary period only. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
does not permit a temporary resident to seek permanent residence from within Canada. When your authorization document is
issued, please read the terms and conditions of your admission to Canada carefully.
In some provinces, students are not eligible for public health insurance. You must ensure that you and your dependants have
adequate health care insurance, or adequate financial resources, to cover possible contingencies. Further information is available
from the Ministry of Health of the province in which you intend to study.
All workers in Canada, including foreign workers, are protected by the relevant labour and employment laws. All workers in
Canada are entitled to work in a safe workplace where their health is protected. If an employer does not pay the wages to which a
worker is entitled, a worker can file a complaint with the federal, provincial or territorial department responsible for employment
standards.
Other than US citizens or permanent residents, you are required to hold a national passport or recognized travel document which
is valid for the duration of your stay in Canada, upon entry to Canada. Failure to hold such a document valid for the full length
of your course of study will likely result in the limitation of the Study permit validity to correspond to your passport validity.
We thank you for your interest in Canada, and wish you a successful stay."
