September 5. I feel as though I will be late. Your status still says Under Consideration in the VAC portal?
CIC says the processing time for Jamaica is at ~5weeks now. I applied online so my status is saying submitted with background check processing and eligibility under review

Yes, I saw 5 weeks too. I applied for the expedited service by filling out a form they gave me at the VAC but that is not guaranteed so I don't know. I read where persons got through in a week to 2 weeks. Not sure if those persons had easier cases to decide on.

Had no idea they had an expedited service, would have gone with that option. Classes start on the 5th for me too and If I don't arrive by then I might have to defer to January so keeping my fingers crossed and hope you get through in time too.

No difference, I doubt my case qualifies, I think it is for medical emergencies or deaths that type of stuff but nothing beats a try. Yes, but starting January might be challenging. You would leave Ja with 30 degrees and step off the plane into -20 degrees zzzzz. I am hoping too.

If you start classes a week or so late that is absolutely normal, no need to defer until January.

Best.

You are required to be but, exceptions will be made in the event your visa isn't granted on time.
