Study Permit issuance at port of entry

Hey guys,

I received an admit from the University of Ottawa in May and applied for my visa with the UOttawa admit letter in June. I got an admit from University of Waterloo in July and that is where I want to join.

I got my visa stamped and got the letter of introduction in the last week of July. I believe that we must provide the immigration officer at the port of entry with the admission letter from University and Letter of Introduction from the Embassy to get the Study Permit issued.

I wonder if providing the UWaterloo admission letter instead of UOttawa's to the immigration officer, raise any eyebrows? Has anyone faced a similar predicament?

Well I got admission to uWaterloo too in July but like you, I applied and got my visa and will be going to uCalgary.

But I did not reject the offer because of this visa issue; considering many other things actually, I have decided to go to uCalgary.

i am doing BBA in virtual university and im in 4th semester.
i have done I-COM Rawalpindi board

You don't have to post you query in every thread. Open up a proper topic and post there. I am sure you will receive proper reply in that way. Posting the same thing over and over again in all the threads will mark you as a spammer and might get you banned from further posting.

hi kaosman, congrats for the study permit...
i am also facing similar situation... got my file submitted for study permit on the Concordia university offer letter. but just like u, i also received an offer of admission from Uwaterloo (hardcopy) on 19 July... while i had already submitted my paper for visa by mid of june on concordia uni offer letter.....

this is the same question which is worrying me as well..... as providing the UWaterloo admission letter instead of Concordia University's to the immigration officer at port of entry, will it raise any eyebrows?

i have talked wid few guys about it... some say, that its fine.. it wont create any problem... while other say opposite it... so i m also not sure, what to do....

secondly your case seems more easy one, as University of Ottawa and Uwaterloo are situated in same province, so then it wont be any big problem... while its seem a bit difficult for me, as Concordia uni and Uwaterloo are both situated in different provinces... so i m more worry then you.... as where to land at port of entry... whether to be in Quebec state or Ontario state...

well may i know, to which program are u going for, in uwaterloo??? I m going for MEng in Electrical..

I don't know about the procedures at the port of entry, but you can change your institute as well as your program of study (same level) with no alterations in your study permit. You can tell the immigration officer that due to Postal Strike in Canada the admission letter of ABC university was delivered late and to get my visa issued in due course of time I applied for study permit on the basis of admission at XYZ university. And tell them that it is mentioned in CIC website that I can change my program of studies as well.

You should improve your English language skills before proceeding to Canada. Your IELTS scores are below standard. You should better reappear in IELTS and try to score at least 6.0 on each section. I highly doubt your selection in any college with a R&W scores of 4.5.

hmm thanks muzamilcjl, for u kind info.. mine program of study is of the same level... in both universities... that was exactly what i had in my mind...as one of my other friend also told me like this, that u should tell like this to the port of entry immigration officier...
but the concerning point is that as those 2 universities are in different state... one in Quebec and other in Ontario state.... so will be fine if i land in Ontario state, while i had the offer letter of study permit on the basis of Quebec state university..... OR will it be better to land in Quebec state first, and then tell the immigration officer about the case...?????

You would be issued your study permit at the port of entry. Most probably you will land in Toronto. Show them the admission letter of the university in Ontario and tell them that this is the main problem blah blah... that i always wanted to go to this university in Quebec. They can handle it better. But you must first show the acceptance letter of the univ on the basis of which u applied for ur study permit and then show them the other one. I hope there won't be any problem.

P.S. I am also facing the same problem as you grape wine. I applied for study permit on basis of admission in U of Regina, Saskatchewan but I want to go the U of Alberta, Alberta. Different states, but inshallah there won't be any problem.

okay fine muzamilcjl... have u been granted study permit... or still waiting for it... ??? from where did u apply for it...

well u got it a bit mix in it.... concordia is in quebec state and uni of waterloo in ontario state... so u mean that should i directlly land in toronto (which is in ontario state) and brief them huh.........

not in quebec state, on behalf of which uni i have been (hopefully will be) granted the study permit???


Landing in different state other then the one on which ur study permit is granted is it okay.??????????

I have applied for study permit from CHC, Islamabad. Done my medicals a few days ago and hope that I would get the visa by August end.

It doesn't matters where you land. Even if you land in Manitoba (neither Ontario nor Quebec) it doesn't matters as long as u have the letter issued by CHC, TRV and all of your proper documents. You have to confront the immigration officer anywhere you land. But you have to tell him the whole scenario.
