Hello Friends,

My name is Sameer Hooda a 20 years old student from New Delhi, India.
Kindly Review my case and answer the questions.
Your help would be appreciated

> Going to University Of Alberta for Electrical Engineering 4 years Bachelors Program. SEPTEMBER 2012 Instake
> Accepted to University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser, Waterloo, Concordia and University of Calgary too but chosing Alberta because of a cousin living there plus some decent scholarship of 9000$

ACADEMICS
> I complete my 12th Class ( 84%) in May, 2011 and since then i have been just applying to the universities and hence little Gap
> My IELTS Score is 8 with none less than 7.5
> My High School subjects were Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computers, English
> My SAT score is 1900 in Reasoning test

FINANCIALS
> My Parents are going to sponsor me.
> They have around Canadian $ 43,000 in Liquid Assets mostly as Fixed Deposits and some in Savings Bank Accounts for more than 5-6 months
> Tuition Fee of my University is $ 24,000 per year with $7000 Scholarship for first year and hence effective Fees is $17,000
> Therefore according to rules : Tuition Fees+10,000$ Living+$3000 Travel expenses = 37,000$ without scholarship and $30,000 with Scholarship
> They have Fixed Land assets of more than $300,000 ( Legal Ones )
> BUT ONE PROBLEM IS MY DAD IS ABOVE 63 years of AGE and RETIRED FOR LAST 5-6 YEARS, HENCE NO FIXED SALARY SO NO INCOME TAX RETURN. THOUGH TOTAL INCOME TAX RETURN FOR MOM+DAD COMBINED FOR LAST 3 YEARS HAS BEEN Rs.5 lakhs, Rs.5.5 lakhs, Rs.6 lakhs respectively per annum

MEDICAL
> I am a completely fine lad except for Asthma ( Is this a problem ) ???

TIES WITH HOME COUNTRY
> My dream is to become a semi conductors Engineer and one day open my own firm in India
> My Dad is above 63 and mom above 55, they are aged and i love them a lot and surely want to retrn back to them especially to handle my younger brother who will have just finished his 12th.
> My Parents are spending a big sum on me, I surely want to return.
> But i dont have any BIG assets back home, just some small plots worth $300,000 and a small house

MY QUESTIONS

1) How strong is my application ( My study plan is good, I fulfill Financials and Medical Criteria, and my University is top ranked with a good engineering program, Great IELTS score and School record )

2) My VISA Counselor asked to show Income Tax returns of my parents which actually arent that great, but after researching on net i found out they just require sufficient liquid assets which i have. So is the Income Tax return a problem ? If yes how much does it dent my chances considering all of my other points are strong ?

3) Which is more preferred ? SELF FUNDED or LOAN From The bank? Which gives more VISA approval rates or what does Canadian VISA OFFICE prefers more ?

4) Are my TIES to home strong enough ? If not what more should i add ?

5) Is my file good enough to prove that I am going Canada only to study ?

6) Any other TIPS? to boost my application ?

7) When can i apply for VISA at earliest for September 2012 intake ?

Hi,

1. Very strong (except for the finance part).
2. It's important if not taking any certified study loan.
3. A study loan (India).
4. It's enough.
5. Yes.
6. If possible take a certified study loan, ELSE get ready with an above average ITR + last '24 months' bank statement (it's transaction history which hold importance) + scholarship documents.
7. You won't get any reply/visa before the 1st week of June 2012 (for September intake).

Thank you very much for your response.

But as you said i need to get ready with above average ITR, now question is they cannot be modified. They have been already filed and hence cannot be modified.

Kindly help me regarding this part.

I have left my college and entirely relying on Canada. I do not want to leave any stone unturned. ....

Hi,

1. An above-average ITR means an impressive ITR returns, NOT a modified one.
2. For CHC (India), a certified bank loan is always a 'preferred way' to show/prove your financial capacity. But it seems you are sure about 'self funding' option. So, attach;

-ITR/Form 16.
-Any investment documents.
-Any property rent 'receipt'.
-Bank statement of "last 24 months". It's transaction history which matters a lot.
-Any possible sponsorship (from outside family).
-Proof of scholarship.
-Advance tuition fee paid receipt, if any.

*Overall, your profile is very strong. May be you should work out more on finance part.

@ENFILD

I cannot modify my financials, yeah I can try for Loan but again cannot be absolutely sure of it.

Lets say i cannot modify my Financials and i am self funding it along with whatever ITR i mentioned above and $43,000 as liquid assets in FDs

what will be my chances. Will my Strong file be able to cover my weak financials a little ??

Kindly help..!!!

Hi Sameer,

See my answers inline. I had similar queries about finance before coming to Canada.

Extremely Strong.

2) My VISA Counselor asked to show Income Tax returns of my parents which actually arent that great, but after researching on net i found out they just require sufficient liquid assets which i have. So is the Income Tax return a problem ? If yes how much does it dent my chances considering all of my other points are strong ?

If you show a bank loan then ITR is not required.

3) Which is more preferred ? SELF FUNDED or LOAN From The bank? Which gives more VISA approval rates or what does Canadian VISA OFFICE prefers more ?

Loan. However, you have many options to get loan. Many banks, including government bank, allow you to make a FD and take a loan on that./ For example, deposit 10 lakhs and take an education loan of 9 lakhs.

Also, remember that you only have to submit the letter of loan approval and you do not have to actually take money from bank.

A lot of people deposit money in FD, take a loan and get visa. And just before coming they cancel the FD and take the money back. This is legal and since you have not taken the first instalment from bank, there is a minimal deduction for paperwork etc.

Otherwise you can take loan on property as well.

Assume 1 month for all the processing.

4) Are my TIES to home strong enough ? If not what more should i add ?

They are enough.

5) Is my file good enough to prove that I am going Canada only to study ?

Yes.

6) Any other TIPS? to boost my application ?

None.

7) When can i apply for VISA at earliest for September 2012 intake ?

I applied in May and got the visa in 2 weeks. I self funded and shown my bank account and my own IT returns since I was working.

Try to apply once the deadline for past semester is gone. Then there are very few application in progress and processing is fast. Also, if you book the tickets in advance 3-4 months then the rate are significantly less.
