We have received a 3 year work permit for myself and my husband back in November. We were asked to submit a form to have our children's study permit. Our passports expire in July and we travelled had to travel without the kids since the study permits still have not come in. After landing we immediately had new passports made and are waiting for the work permit extension since our original passports expired in July. It has been almost 7 months now and the kids don't have their permits yet. Can we call them under a visitor visa while the study permits are processing. The kids are only 6 and 10 and are struggling wihout us. I don't understand what is taking so long..

Did your children complete medicals? What are your NOCs?

You may want to consider a)reapply for study permit with updated information and b) apply for TRV at the same time. TRV processing may not be any faster depending on where you children are living.

Medicials were all completed with our initial application for work permit. We have work permit with multiple entry but are waiting on the work permit extension since our passports expire in July and we had to get new passports so my understanding is we would not need TRV. My work permit falls under the healthcare provider category and my husband has an open work permit issued for spouses.

What TEER is your NOC. If TEER 4-5, your children would not have been eligible for study permits so that may be the delay. Rules changed for TEER 4-5 work permits and now I believe children are eligible. What is the status of the children’s study permits? Consider ordering GCMS notes too.

You can certainly apply for TRVs for your children. The issue is that TRV may be refused because IRCC will ask for study permits.

I am not sure the teer level. We used a consulant for paperwork and they are handling all issues. Since we have received letters asking for updated passport for youngest child I think we are ok. The local MPP has said the file looks good and there should be no delay but we keep waiting. The only reason that we can see for a delay is that our extension for work permit has not been completed.

What is your job? So in the meantime, if you want to apply for TRV then go ahead.
