Hi,
My study permit expired on 31st July, and I also applied for the extension on 31st July. But, on my online file, it's showing submission date is August 1st

You shouldn’t have waited until the last minute. You can call IRCC and beg and explain that you did submit on the 31st. Assume it was in the evening. Otherwise you have to restore your status.

In the email, they are saying I have submitted the application on 31st July and, they received that on August 1st. Do I still need to restore?

If the system says Aug 1st then it should be that date .
It depends on when IRCC receives the file and processes it into the system, guess you applied late evening of 31st .

Why did you wait till the last moment to apply ?

The extension will be eventually refused. You have to restore first then extend.
