Hello,
I have been studying in Canada since January, 2013 and my study permit will expire in April 2014.
I have applied on CIC to extend my study permit a month ago and submitted all the documents required (passport, study permit, letter of acceptance, etc.). I got a refusal letter from the CIC today regarding to my study permit extension application, saying:
"Your application as requested is refused.
Immigration Legislation requires that every foreign national in Canada must hold a valid passport, identity or travel document. As a foreign national in Canada, you have not produced evidence that you are in possession of such a document and that it is valid for the duration of your stay in Canada.
We also wish to advise you that your temporary resident status will expire on April 30, 2014. You may apply again before the expiry of your temporary resident status if you submit:
a completed application form;
applicable fees for the immigration document(s) in the amount of $275 payable at a financial institution in Canada or online at CIC.
All required documents in support of your application."
I don't get it. I am still studying in Canada with a valid study permit and I submitted my passport and study permit in my application. What does CIC mean that "As a foreign national in Canada, you have not produced evidence that you are in possession of such a document and that it is valid for the duration of your stay in Canada"?
Is there any way I can appeal? Or what should I do next before I try to re-apply.
Thank you!
