Study Permit extension form - Section 2D (Have you been refused before?)

Hi everyone,

I am about to apply for my study permit extension (current one expires March 31st) for a new 1 year program I have been accepted for.

I was initially rejected in my first attempt at getting a study permit as the officer was not convinced that I was a genuine student and was not satisfied that I would leave Canada at the end of my education.

I then reapplied, attaching a supporting letter from my then employer stating that they fully support my overseas education and are willing to rehire me upon return. Thereafter, I received my study permit on this 2nd attempt.
I have completed a 1 year program and want to pursue another one.

Now in the study permit extension form, there is a section where it says:
"Have you ever been refused a visa or permit, denied entry or ordered to leave Canada or any other country.
If you answered yes, please provide details."

Since I was initially rejected, I'm hoping someone could advise me on what "details" I need to/should provide in this section. I'm very nervous as I'm afraid I may get rejected based on that.

Please help!

You have already written what details you should include:
I was initially rejected in my first attempt at getting a study permit (insert application number and date here) as the officer was not convinced that I was a genuine student and was not satisfied that I would leave Canada at the end of my education.

These are all the details you want to add and you may also add the application number and date. Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick response.
Would you be able to shed some light (based on your experience, perhaps in these forums) on if it may prove to be a hindrance in attaining the extension? As in, is it more of a big deal for people wanting to yet come to Canada or is it equally applicable to students already here? It seems the form is a multi purpose one for a few different cases.

Curious: Would it help if I paste the official rejection as stated below as it may seem a bit more generic at first glance?:
"Your proposed studies are not reasonable in light of one or more of; you qualifications, previous studies, missing marksheets, academic record, level of establishment, language abilities, or your future prospects and plans"

Hello everyone,

I am trying to extend my study permit in Canada. I also applied for PR some years ago and I am still waiting. Regarding my military, I did not serve in the military and I just did a research project and they gave me the proof of completion of my military service. So, I answered "No" to the questions regarding the military service in my initial study permit, visa, and also PR applications.

My US visa (B1 Business/Conference) was refused for going to conference in 2016 under section 214(b). Because I answered "No" to the question regarding the military service in the application forms. When the US officer in the interview asked me about the military, I told him that I did not serve in military but I did a project and got the completion of my military (it was my mistake I guess). And he refused my visa.

For the new study permit extension application, I want to answer "No" to military question the same as before. Now, I'm very worried because if I answer "Yes" to the question "Have you ever been refused a visa or permit, denied entry or ordered to leave Canada or any other country?" in the study permit extension forms, I need to explain possibly about why I was rejected. So, it is possible because of the "info sharing" between Canada and US they can have access to my application and they thought that there is a misrepresentation regarding my military and they refuse my new study permit and also PR applications.

If I answer "No" to this question, my concern is based on the "info sharing" they will find out about my US visa rejection and I think it is going to be dishonesty as well.

Now the questions are:

1) Is there any "info sharing" between Canada and US and are they able to access all the information in my US application without my permission?

2) What is the best thing I can do now?

Regards,
