Study permit expired, completed studies and applying for work permit.

Hi everyone, please help me in my situation described below:
I have completed 2 years of studies and my SIN & study permit expired on May 15, 2019 (study permit saying that I should have left Canada by the date of the expiration of study permit. I realized this today May 22, 2019, when I was applying for my work permit online. Although I still have my visa till July 31, 2019.
I contacted a lawyer and was told that I'll need to restore my status which will cost me CAD 200 something approx and their consultation charges separate from application will amount me to CAD 700 something approx.
Please help me and provide direction on what can or should I do?
I can apply for my PGWP myself. I'll need to know if I can apply it without restoration of my status since my visa is still available.

You need some sort of valid status to apply for pgwp wither student or visitor. So you need to restore to one of those probably visitor at this point since you are no longer a student. Also if you apply for PGWP as a visitor you cant work until you actually get it, if you apply as a student you can work as soon as you apply.
