Hi,

When i entered Canada the study permit issued to had the following condition stated in it

"UNLESS AUTHORIZED, PROHIBITED FROM ENGAGING IN EMPLOYMENT IN CANADA"

what does this mean? Does all the students have this condition on there permit? Cant i even work on campus? I didnt found any such case online... as every where it says you are allowed to work on campus without any permit... If it stops me from working on campus how can i gain the authorization to work on campus?

I guess it probably means you can't work unless CIC give you authorization. Conditions of CIC is that you can't work during first 6 months , after 6 months of study you get OCWP where you can work 20 hours per week .. Moreover, CIC issue you PGWP. I'm sure you must be aware of it. If your program is CO-OP you should have got your work permit at PORT OF ENTRY though. If you haven't got it. You can apply later.

Crystal Clear: you can't work illegally until CIC issues you any work permit !!

Hope it helps.

GOOD LUCK

you can ask your college about on campus work permit. They'll help you though.

The statement was the clearly depicting not to do any illegal work unless you get a work permit. That's all.

On Campus doesn't need any work permit requirement then you're good to go !!!

I did discuss with CIC and they said its not an issue..you can work on campus if you are a full time student in the university conditions doesnt matter ....

Yeah, you don't need any authorization for working on campus.

So when can you work illegally?

When you work more than 20 hours a week or you work without any work permit OCWP/PGWP.
Thats illegal dude!!

Read again what you wrote:

What you are saying is that WITHOUT a work permit you CAN NOT (=can't) work illegally. Which is why I am asking you when can we work illegally (illegally = against the law). Do I need a work permit to work illegally?

As for the calling me dude - never assume a gender on a poster.

I know! And he/she obviously doesn't get why it is so funny.

@ itstime: are you out of your mind?
I was simply tryin' to tell him, you can't work unless CIC issues you a work permit as there are many students, who end up work without permit and jeopardize their life . I was tryin' to warn my friend.

Instead of correcting mistakes. Its better to help our friend out. If he/she understood what I was tryin' to say. Then Keep your lectures to yourself!

And I wasn't even tryin' to be funny, have you seen me lolling? NO. Then Don't make assumptions on your own.

Good luck!

dont worry relax there was a typo in ur earlier post thats what they r laughing at. ignore them .Also u can edit ur earlier posts to remove that typo.

Thanks mead bro.

I know I made a typo in my earlier posts. Why should I remove? To hell with them what this/that person thinks. I was helping our friend out if he/she gets what I was tryin' to say they should've mind their own business instead of correcting mistakes.

The typo completely changes the meaning of the advice. There is a HUGE difference between illegally and legally.

Basically, you can only work on campus (if you find a job on campus to begin with) for the first 6 months. Once you have a work permit (if you manage to score one because it is dependent on having a good standing with the college-university) then you can work 20hrs off campus. Any work OFF campus before you have the work permit is illegal and could lead to have study permit revoked and be deported.

Now, although it isn't advisable, (and last time I checked, it actually says that) there is nothing in the law that prevents you from working 20hrs on campus AND 20 hrs off campus, once you have the work permit. It's just going to be all the more harder to keep good grades.

@ Itstime:

The advice I given was purely according to the CIC rules, your advice ain't any have different information than what I've written. I agree there was some type error but it was purely understandable and according to the terms and conditions of CIC.

Moreover,

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp

Check out this link. You'll find CIC clearly wrote you've the authority to work for 20 hours, and after that off campus work is not authorized and this could jeopardize someone's career.
