hi friends,

i am an international student studying in toronto, canada. my course is completing on april 18, 2014 and my study permit is expiring on april 31st 2014.
but to apply for post graduate work permit and recieve my final transcripts, i need a valid study permit. my college advised me to apply for study permit bridge extension. they have issued me a letter explaining my situation. i called cic today to ask about what other documents do i need. they sent me an email which looks like this:-

You can apply for a temporary extension (bridge extension) of your Study Permit if you want to participate in the Post-Graduation Work Program but that your permit will expire soon and you have received notification in writing from your college/university of successful completion of the requirements for a degree/diploma.

The bridge extension will give you more time to get the required documents to apply for the post-graduation work permit.

To apply for a bridge extension:

You must send an Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada as a Student to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta. You must do this before the expiry date of your study permit.

The application is available on our website.

You must include a letter explaining why you need this bridge extension and a notification of completion of the requirements for the program from the educational institution.

Please note that you do not need an acceptance letter from your school or a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec, if applicable.

Visit our website to see how long it may take to process your application.

they have told to include a notification of completion of requirements for the program from educational institute. but i will recieve confirmation of graduation only in second week of may and by then my study permit will expire. So what i need to do in this case. Please help me.

Thanks

Hi,

buddy, if you have your university course remaining, your university has to issue you a letter stating the length of the course remaining, but as I had my course completed, I just had to prepare a letter stating that I need a little time to get my final transcript and degree and upload it with the other documents.

When you go to CIC website on the "extend your study permit link, answer the initial questions they ask, they themselves give you the option "Bridge extension". The form that you'll have to fill is IMM5709 and attach other required documents with it.

Remember, they'll ask you to upload the letter of acceptance from the university, so if you have completed your course and just wanting sometime to collect your final credentials, just upload the letter you write requesting for the extension there, no need for the letter from the university then, in-fact your university wont issue you a letter in-case your studies have been completed.
