Talking about my background, I finished my Bachelor's in Computer Science in May 2019. My original plan was for US Student Visa which I filed in the month of July 2020 along with my friends. I applied two times in a span of 16 days, rejected both the times on the bases that I will not leave US after proposed studies(I was given the generic 214b refusal paper) but my friends got in. So yeah, that was a bummer.

I gave up, looked for Universities in Canada, I was a little late for January 2020 intake, So applied for September 2020. Got into a University for September 2020 intake, deferred to January 2021 hoping the Covid 19 would have gone and classes would've resumed to in person by then. But instead, it got worse. So I started online classes in January since IRCC was okay with studying without AIP.

The University fees structure was such that my fees for first year is $24,000 and second year fees would be $10,000. But my admit letter said the tuition fees for two year program would be around $28,000 in total. So in the hopes of submitting a SDS application, I paid $14,000 to the University and $10,000 for GIC. I came to know about the actual fees when I asked for fee receipt from my University and they provide me one which stated that I've paid 14K and that the fees for first year is 24K. And they said they'd only provide me the tuition fees receipt once. So there goes my SDS application plans. I submitted a non SDS application, included the 14K tuition fees receipt and 10K GIC as financial documents. Only CAD 24K in total. No other documents for financial support. Red flag number 1.

Also, I was unemployed all this time because I didn't think I'd have to delay my plans to study by this long. But I kept on studying from other sources, brushing up my skills and knowledge, not that there was any proof of it I could show in my application. Red flag number 2.

There was a massive AIP drop in the last week on January. Some of the students in my course received it too on around January 26th. I didn't, I thought I'd probably get it the next week even though I had applied atleast a month before them.
When I received BVL on February 6th without any AIP, I remember seeing a thread regarding it here where someone said, "BVL without AIP is a refusal almost everytime".

And seeing how I only showed 14K+10K in financial documents and the fact that I was unemployed for over 15 months while submitting the application, I knew that all I was waiting for was a refusal letter. And reading the mail in the morning of 10th February that there has been an update in your application, I knew I was going to be reading the refusal letter. But instead, it took me by surprise, it was the Original Passport Request letter. These 4 days post receiving BVL and before receiving OPR felt like existential crisis to me. But in the end, it worked out just fine. And yeah, I'm thankful that it did.

PS. I did apply for GCMS notes on February 4th, 2021 and I'm waiting on reading what the officer had to say about my application. My best guess would be that I had a pretty good SOP, clearly describing my past studies, why current program, what my future job prospects in my home country would be and how the degree from Canada would be beneficial in my home country. I'm not gloating that my SOP was incredible, I know it wasn't, but it was clear and covered all the questions that a visa officer would have had if this was a one on one interview.

Advice for future applicants : I am no expert when it comes to this, there are many others with way more expertise. But I just want to say that don't make the mistakes that I made, and focus on your SOP. Have it proofread by your peers and ask them if it covers all the necessary info that a Visa officer needs.

So yeah, that's the longer version of it. All the best to all the future applicants.

Funny thing, I ordered GCSM notes when I got approved just to see what the VO said. Trust me, they are direct. Mine said, the previous refusal noted and PO makes sense. I am certified he is a genuine student.

But all in all, Congratulations. Welcome to Canada.

Hello Guys, do we get BVL again if we have received it in the previous study visa application as on my case I got BVL before refusal letter so in next time application I will directly get PPR, right?
Please update anyone with knowledge of it.
What does correspondence letter contain before PPR?

They always send BVL to acknowledge the validity. Whether your next application you will get PPR, we don't know. Only VO knows. If you meet the eligibility, yes, you will get PPR. If not, you will get the same correspondence letter addressing why they refused you.

This is how it goes; you get BVL first, then either correspondence letter or Original Passport Request. If you get a correspondence letter after BVL, just know it is a refusal letter and vice versa with OPR.
