Hi,

I got approval in a post secondary institution in Canada and got my study permit for a 2 year program.

I have a question re: spousal work permit.

My husband is currently on visit visa in Canada and I would like to add him as a dependent. It is my understanding that spousal dependents get open work permit for the duration of my study permit in Canada. Due to a personal situation we are planning on leaving to India next week. My question is can he come back on visit visa and explain the immigration officer at the border about extending the stay by applying for an open work permit while being in Canada ? Will it cause any problems for him if he did that ?

I have read several forums where I got mixed reviews, so I just want to make sure I understand if there is any issue doing this. Please let me know.

Thanks

see dear ..

first of all congrates ..

what i personally feel that as of now dont do anything .. if you already in canada is ok .. if not .. than first get into canada clearing the immigiration .

And once all the things done than you can discuss thiw with your seniors over there ..

Becuse if you do it right now and u still not reached canada than it might get issue that your purpose is to earn money ..

Keep calm as of now and than apply for dependent visa ..

All the best ..

Thanks a lot for the response guys. More than the intention of coming here for work, he obviously wishes to accompany me. Anyway, what do you think are the chances to his work permit approval if we apply say one week after I start my studies in Canada ? I just want to make sure he is eligible to continue his career in Canada.
