Well I also applied for 2021 jan on March and biometrics done july 8 . I guess they are doin this totally random. But its great to hear that they started to review winter applications.
After submitting a web form, my eligibility reviewing started with ghost update.
I got my LOA in June and my school starts in January. Due to covid-19, my university encouraged me to apply early (on July 21) to have enough time for re-apply in case of a refusal.
I got 2 e-mails this morning from VFS. Do you know what it means ?

Paper application or online? If its online, its non-sense because I received same e-mails from VFS 10 days after submitting my biometrics.

I have had the exact situation. After a few hours, you will get another e-mail from VFS includes the following:
"Your processed passport has been forwarded to the Canada Visa Office. "
