Study permit application (refused)

Hi,

We recently received the update regarding our application and unfortunately it was refused for this reason:

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.

Sharing with you the summary of our application details:

1. I applied for a study permit along with my wife's open work permit last September 09,2021.
2. Already accepted and enrolled in a DLI for a master's degree program (Technology Innovation Management - Masters in Engineering, Winter 2022 intake).
3. Already opened a GIC bank account and paid a 1 year tuition fee.
4. Done with the biometrics and medical examination.
5. Application result was released today, November 09,2021.


We're a citizen in the Philippines and currently living here. I'm at 30 years of age and my wife's at 25, we are married for a year and doesn't own a property which we think that might be one of the reasons why our application got refused. Right now we are thinking if I should re-apply alone to strengthen my intention that I'll be going back here in our country after the study period ends since my wife is still here. Any advice?

You should've applied alone in the first place. That's what most people with families (from developing countries) are doing these days. It's sad though that IRCC is even refusing people in a Masters of Engineering...

What can you advise @DesiPikachu? Is it risky to re-apply immediately?

We're thinking that the visa officer might notice that I left my wife when I re-applied but in my previous SOP I indicated such reasons that we want to be together in this journey.

Apply for GSCM notes, find out why you were refused and then address that in your next application. Would highly recommend you do not apply again immediately.

I'm not telling you to not apply just for the sake of it. Apply when you have successfully strengthened your application and addressed their concerns. How long that takes for you, I don't know. GSCM notes take at least 30 days I think.

As they say, it's silly to do the same thing twice and expect different results.

What is your purpose of visit? Why did they say you are not leave Canada after your stay? Are you using a study permit to try to immigrate to Canada permanently? Because that would result in a refusal. Trying again won't change the results of your purpose stays the same, even if you change the words on your SOP

My purpose of visit is to study. I'll be taking my Master's Degree this Winter 2022, already accepted in a DLI, paid the 1 year tuition fee, opened a GIC account, etc. Just got refused in the study permit application.

It will be tough for me to take the class online due to time zone difference of Canada and Philippines.
