Same here. Nothing has changed after submitting my biometrics. Since then it says that my application is in progress with background check being processed and eligibility being reviewed. It's been 3 months now.

Status: officially "action required" means need to submit biometrics but unofficially nothing to do as VAC is "closed"

You need medical if you applied from Pakistan. Going for medical once they request you would only delay the process.

In the questionnaire when you begin applying it asks if you took medical in the last 11/12 months so I guess it must be valid for 11/12 months

I will be submitting my study permit application under non sds category today from india for jan 21. What will happen if my study permit does not get approved before the commencement of January intake?
Will I be able to study online legally?
