I am not sure I have been advised the best in this regard but I have been told that for visa application, it is always better to be silent about family members being located in the visiting country.

Don't reveal anything to them.Just present your file like a normal person.
People will advice be honest and they will give you visa blah blah.

But I talked to a Immigration officer and he told me, We knew that students are going to settle in Canada after studies and by telling them the truth you're troubling yourself. So its better to be silent about your family members.

If they find out on their own, that's your bad luck but by telling them you're worsening your chances on your own.

Good luck !

The best thing is: whenever you start something start with honesty. There's a form for study permit which asks about family information, so anyway they will cross check it so dont risk your case by hiding it. Make a good SOP which tells that the degree you opted is unique and thats why you are travelling to canada. Thats all.

Good Luck!

My sister is also in Canada and I got my Visa :). Do not hide or lye because doing so will result in immediate cancellation of your application. Be honest and write a good SOP as SyedZadi1 mentioned above.

You can't hide it actually as you're required to complete and sign the Family Information form IMM 5645 in which you must mention all your siblings, if you didn't include your sister, you would be lying and in case you get caught, you'll be banned from applying again.
So, just be honest and hope for the best, there are many students who got visas even though they had family members in Canada.

So for example, if we have a sister, even thou if she is married, we have to mention ?

Yes of course, there is a place where you're supposed to indicate the martial status of each family member of yours. Moreover, you would have to include them even if they're deceased, you would have to indicate the city and date.

They will check your last name and your parents to the info in their system and will find your sister under her maiden name. They compare parents, their info, info your sister gave about you, and you are caught.
