Student visa on common-law relationship?

Is it possible to change condition on my stay in Canada, meaning passing from visitors visa to study permit if I am in a common-law relationship. Or should I apply only outland for this.

Thanks for your replies. I figured that if I don't have PR I will need to apply outland.
