I am from Pakistan and I am looking forward to apply for a Masters in Computer Science degree in Canada. However, I have not received any positive feedback regarding this. Since I don't have much information regarding studies in Canada, I have been going to multiple consultants in my country. Every consultant said that it is very hard to obtain a student visa for Canada and many students are getting rejected (mainly Masters program). They told me to give Australia a try since it is accepting students and would be a better destination. So in fear of getting rejected a student visa for Canada, I applied for Australia and everything was going fine until my student visa was refused under the GTE clause even though I provided the VO with information regarding our property in Pakistan, entire family in Pakistan, good travel history, proposed course is inline with my previous education.

Since I have been refused a student visa from Australia and have wasted my time and money in this process, I really do not want to waste anymore time. I really want to continue my education without any big study gaps.

I would really like to know what are the chances of a student visa in Canada for a Pakistani student. Were the consultants right about it being hard to obtain a student visa for Canada and many students are getting rejected (mainly Masters program), or was it all just a lie to push me towards another country?

Please tell me what are my chances to obtain a student permit for Canada from PAKISTAN. If you know about anyone who has applied in 2016 / 2017 and has received a student permit, please let me know.

My profile:

Bachelors in Computer Science (3.10 CGPA) - Graduated in 2016 (received my transcript in December and recieved my degree in February 2017)

IELTS 7.0 (no band less than 6.5)

December 2016 - April 2017 (Training/Internship - Web Developer)

February 2017 - Present (Offshore Freelancer for a company overseas - Web Developer)

Please let me know

Any help by you guys is much appreciated. I just want to know what are the chances so I can move forward with a positive attitude.

Thanks a lot !!!

Several Pakistani students get visa for master degree. Your profile is decent, although rejection in Australia will make a negative impact. You still hold a good chance. Every case is different and assessed on individual merit. There is no generalization. Search in the forum with relevant keywords, you will see how many Pakistani students are getting visa.

Moral of the story: most of those consultants are idiots. Do some research in the forum, interact with members. You can file your application by yourself.

I would suggest you to spend time in the forum and go through old posts and tally that with information in cic.gc.ca. You will learn a lot and gain useful insight.

You must explain why the reasons of rejection in Australia would not be a trouble for Canada, point by point.
Also it is important to emphasize how the proposed study program is relevant to your past experience or degrees. That will convince the VO that you are not just switching countries with other thoughts in mind. In general, you must explain ties to home country. See other posts to learn about ties.

Thanks for replying,

So I should just focus on why Canada is a good destination for higher studies and not compare why I chose Canada after Australia refused me.
And mention how the course is inline with previous education, and explain the refusal reason and showing that I have ties such as property in Pakistan, entire family in Pakistan and good travel history.

Also, would it be a good idea if i mentioned that my parents would be retiring after 3 or 4 years and that I have would have to come back for them afterall they have given me so much.

Yea very true, every year number of applications for canada are increasing and so are number of refusal increasing. Many students apply to canada for getting settled in canada as its very good destination and friendly environment. Refusal rate for Australia and usa are less than canada.

After being refused by Australia even though I had a strong profile/case I just lost hope, considering Australia has a lower refusal rate :/

If your financial status is good then your visa should not have been refused. Please provide some details about your sponsor financial strength ?
